A picture uploaded to the Animal Justice League Facebook page tells the heart-breaking story of the death of a police horse.
Charlotte joined the Houston Police Department as a 2-year old Tennessee Walker from Oklahoma.
The Houston Police Department write: “She passed her evaluation period with flying colors and was working the streets of Downtown Houston within a short time of being started under saddle. She loved her job and was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children”

Earlier this month, Charlotte was on patrol when she became startled and bucked her rider. She ran onto the road where she was sadly injured by a cement truck. A vet found that her injuries were too severe for reasonable treatment and was called to the scene to euthanize her.
Her rider, Officer D. Herrejon, stayed by her side throughout the ordeal.
Animal Justice League paid tribute to Charlotte and Officer Herrejon, writing:
“We admire the heart & strength of this officer because as you know when you lose an animal, to be with them during their last breath is a heartbreaking & tough thing to do. Thank you to him for loving his partner & friend until the end”.
We’ve always said we support ALL animals, and know the relationship with those animals & their person is an incredible…
