A Man Released After 44 Years In Jail Reacts To Modern Technology And Society For The First Time

Otis Johnson was just 25-years old when he was incarcerated.

Her

YouTube and Facebook are only 11 years old.

Smartphones might seem like your average personal mobile now, but they’re merely years old.

The first personal cameras came to market in the 80s, and wifi and broadband are a long way from the dial-up connection we all suffered through in the early noughties.

So imagine if you spent 44-years away from modern technology.

How would you even react?

Or understand the world you now lived in?

Otis Johnson is 69-years old.

He went to jail in 1971 for charges of assault and attempted murder of a police officer.

Having just been released back into society, the near elderly man seems totally confused and unsure of life in 2015.

In a video shot for Al-Jazeera, Otis documents some of the stranger phenomena’s of modern day culture.

This includes everything from people walking down the road “talking to themselves” on their phones, to having to struggle with working out what to eat.

While we can’t imagine what it’s like to step into a time warp, this video is a real eye-opener for people being re-introduced to society after serving time.
