A 94-Year-Old Irish Man Seeks to Thank Young Woman For Her Meaningful Act of Kindness

"We need more like her in this world"

Cassie Delaney

“We need more like her in this world”, the words of an Irish widower seeking to reconnect with a young woman that had a tremendous impact on his day.

The Liberal is helping Joseph Gibbons track down a mystery twenty-something girl called Rebecca for a very special reason.

In a letter, 94-year-old Joseph writes that he was mourning his wife of 65 years and had for the first time entered a supermarket since her death. When he struggled with the self-service checkout, a young woman named Rebecca assisted him, completing all his shopping and placing it into bags.

The elderly gentleman describes “the most beautiful girl” Rebecca as being in her early twenties with “long wavy blonde hair and was wearing all black”.

Joseph explained that while the act seemed like no great deal, it had a massive impact on him as it occurred on the month’s mind of his wife’s death.

He continues in the letter that he would “really love to find this girl and thank her properly”.

“People like her need to be recognised, we need more like her in this world, people who would gladly take time out of their day to help people,” he said.
