We’ve all been there.
Unfortunately, as winter fast approaches, the inevitable usually happens.
The weather gets colder, the days get shorter, and the number of hankies, sneezes, and coughs on our commute into work triples. Meaning sadly we eventually get the dreaded winter cold.
Here are the thoughts we all have once we get sick.
This isn’t happening everything’s fine
Your body starts to ache just a little when you’re lying in bed and you sneezed a few times at work. You’re hoping it’s just a notion and you’ll be fine in the morning. It’s definitely not the cold, sure it’s not even October yet.
Why now? Why me?
Why? No seriously! The next morning you wake up with the world’s worst cold and are left completely mystified. You take all the vitamins, you eat well, and you look after yourself. This shouldn’t be happening to you, you’re a good person.
How do people breathe when they’re sleeping?
How the hell do people manage to sleep and breathe at the same time? You’re finding it damn near impossible. Say hello to the dryest mouth possible.
Who has inflicted this hell on me?
Who gave me this godforsaken cold? Was it Susan from the office? She did sneeze beside me in that meeting last week. I must have caught her germs. Silly inconsiderate Susan.
You completely forget about ever being well before
What was it like to be healthy? You really can’t remember what is was like before you spent your entire day shivering, sneezing, and coughing. You must have had so much time on your hands.
Well, I better get my will together
You’ve reached the bitter end. You can’t imagine life beyond this cold, it’s time to accept your inevitable fate. You’re going to feel unwell for the foreseeable future. You’ve just accepted it.
The first shower
You finally muster the strength to clamber into the shower and you can feel your germs being washed away under the boiling water. You come out and change into clean pyjamas before clambering back into bed. You start to feel marginally better. Could this be it? Could you actually be starting to feel human again?
Finally getting your taste and smell back
Sweet relief! A few days later something miraculous happens. You finally start to taste food again and are able to enjoy your first proper meal. You automatically start to feel like yourself again, you’re finally on the mend.
