Some people dread their birthdays as it means they are officially another year older. Others don’t even celebrate theirs for the same reason. But a new survey has shown that the majority of people mark theirs every year and that it is the second most popular annual occasion.
The study by gift specialists One4all found that after Christmas, people love to mark birthdays more than Valentine’s Day, Halloween and anniversaries.
Among the many age-related milestones people have, 21st birthdays came out tops in the poll pipping 18th and 30th celebrations to the post.
Speaking of the celebrations themselves, most people said that they marked their birthdays doing something simple with family and friends as opposed to jetting off somewhere for the occasion. Less is more and all that!
Who better to buy you a present than yourself?
Not that we’re not a nation that doesn’t like to treat ourselves. Over half of those asked admitted to giving themselves a birthday gift while a quarter are more than happy to drop hints about present ideas. Well there’s no point in getting something you don’t like, is there?
The survey also revealed that half of people like to be surprised for the occasion. And what better surprise than to have a celebrity jump out of your birthday cake?
Out of the ladies asked, the majority wanted to see Colin Farrell emerge from their cake on their big day. Bressie, Brian O’Driscoll, Liam Neeson and our very own sexiest man Rob Kearney were also in the frame to be hiding among the icing.
Colin Farrell was the male celeb that women wanted to see in their cake.
