The middle child is often seen as the martyr of the family.
Frequently overlooked, rarely in the spotlight and the subject of countless “middle child syndrome” essays, it’s easy to feel like piggy in the middle got the short straw.
However, in order to celebrate National Middle Child Day, we decided to focus on the perks of being in the middle.
*And we promise we won’t mention “the syndrome” once. Well, except for just there. But that was the last time.*
1. You get away with murder – because no one’s paying attention.
2. They may think you shy away from the spotlight, but you’re ALWAYS centre stage in the photos. *evil genius laugh*.
3. You’re diplomatic – in fact 53 per cent of presidents are middle children.
4. Your teachers automatically like you because of your over-achieving older sister.
5. You get the benefits of being an older sibling AND a younger sibling.
6. You are an EXCELLENT friend and roommate – you know how to mediate and share.
7. Middle Child Day is celebrated WAY more enthusiastically than Oldest or Youngest Child Day – they just don’t have the same ring.
