This 105 year-old-woman had the best birthday request

Granny goals

Her

Yaaaaass queen.

In the age of the Internet, videos of older people defying the norm are gold.

This granny got it going on. Iveana Smailes, known locally as Ivy had a rather unusual request for her 105th birthday. She asked her carers at Addison Court Care Home in Crawcrook, a rural village in the North East of England, for hunky firefighters to deliver her birthday cake this year.

And why shouldn’t she? At the ripe ol’ age of 105, Ivy is more than entitled to any outlandish birthday wish her heart desires.

Amazingly, the staff at her care facility were more than happy to fulfil her wish and last Thursday five firefighters from the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, descended on the old folks home in full uniform to surprise Ivy.

Armed with a ladder and a birthday cake, the firemen climbed through the third story window of the care home and were welcomed by 40 of Ivy’s friends and family.

“It was great! Out of this world”, she told ABC news.

One of her carers, Debbie Carter also told the news outlet how Ivy has “got a great sense of humour”

She added

“[Ivy] sends us little challenges for her birthday every year and this year she asked for firemen. We had the local fire brigade come…through the third floor balcony window. They were more than happy to help”

Next year Ivy has requested that she would like to meet Prince Harry.

We love these stories as they defy the stereotypical schools of thought held about older people. Born in 1906, Ivy has seen it all. She has lived through both World War I and World War II, and has seen four different monarchs take over Windsor Palace. She is giving us serious granny goals.
