We're here to make the transition easier.
So you're heading off to college in September, first of all, we are ridiculously jealous, second of all, there are a few things you should know.
From making friends to mastering the kitchen there are lots of things you're going to need to figure out once you start.
So we thought we would impart some of our collective wisdom. Here are the things we wish someone had told us before we started college.
You will be nervous as anything
College is the best craic ever once you're settled but that doesn't mean you won't feel a little bit nervous during the first week or even the first month. The important thing to remember is everyone's in the same boat so just be friendly, smile and the nerves will pass.
You will miss home
But it will be okay. If you're moving away for college you will miss home the odd time (usually when the fridge is empty and the flat is a tip). The good thing is you will appreciate your time at home a lot more, and your bed, your precious bed.
You might lose touch with friends from home
It's sad but it's true. You might stay in contact for a few months but after a while you will have so many new friends at college that you won't be able to keep in touch with everyone. There will always be a few people that you will be friends with forever though, the real squad.
You will always regret skipping that class
You tell yourself you won't miss anything important, it's only one class after all. Wrong! During that one class they will go over all the information for the upcoming assignment, organise groups for the presentation and go over exam questions, it is just a fact.
Naps will become your best friend
Mmm naps. Enjoy them while you can. College is probably the only time in your life when it will become completely acceptable to go for a nap at 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon so treasure each one dearly.
Budgets are actually important
We all know this is true. Having a budget (even a rough one) in place will help you stay on top of your finances throughout the year. You will never have to say no to a night out or a trip to the cinema with your friends because you can't afford it.
You don't have to love the people living in your halls
Just because the college placed you together doesn't mean you are all automatically going to become best friends for life. Make an effort to get to know them and if it doesn't work out you can always live with different people next year.
You college friends are really important
Your group of friends at college will become your extended family during your time studying so choose them wisely. Join as many clubs and organisations as you can in first year and meet as many people as possible.
Never ever do an assignment the night before
Well... you probably still will, but try to avoid it at all costs. Leaving assignments to the last minute usually leads to tantrums, fits of rage and eventual crying sessions. Save on the drama and just do it a few days before it is due.
Always keep a packet of noodles handy
Do we really even need to explain this one? Noodles will form the basis of your college diet, always stock a selection.
