Her.ie girls Amy and Patricia are officially half way through their Weight Watchers challenge and this week, they’re talking birthdays, prepping for Christmas and dealing with over-indulgence.

Despite giving in to the odd temptation, they’ve been doing great and have already lost over a stone. In their twice-weekly diary, the girls are giving us an in depth look at just what it’s really like to live life while following the Weight Watchers plan.

It was my birthday this weekend and, despite my best intentions not to, I did end up over-indulging a fair bit. To be honest, I sort of knew I was a goner as soon as I laid eyes on the chocolate birthday cake that had taken up residence in the fridge on Saturday.

While I managed to remain within my ProPoints on Friday, on Saturday night I went out for a lovely three-course Italian meal. There were creamy sauces, a glass of champagne, some wine and some cake so I figured Saturday would be a cheat day for me. However my parents arrived yesterday and brought me out for dinner again, so I found myself going over my ProPoints once more.

I’ll be honest and say that I regret nothing! The food was absolutely delicious and hey, how often does your birthday come around, right? But with that being said, I’m determined to get myself back on track until Christmas next week.

My initial goal for my next weigh-in was to stay the same, so as long as the scales doesn’t show a gain on Wednesday, I’ll be pretty happy.

I’m also starting to think about Christmas now. I’m taking the advice of my leader Mary and viewing the festive season as one day only. In the past, I would have seen Christmas as an excuse to eat my body weight in chocolate for two weeks straight, but I’ve worked hard to lose the weight over the past few weeks and I don’t want to undo all my efforts in the space of a few days.

I’m heading back to my family home next weekend for the holidays and I’m planning on bringing my runners with me so I can get out and about for a few power-walks over Christmas.

I’m a bit apprehensive about my weigh-in this Wednesday but I’m hoping I haven’t done too much damage!

T’is the season to be jolly and really really tempted to over indulge but I think against all odds I’ve had a relatively good week. Being 22, my biggest challenge over the Christmas period has been alcohol but I think I have done a good job keeping on track of my ProPoints even though at times it has been hard.

Like Mary suggested at the beginning of December, I have switched from heavier drinks such as beer and wine to lighter ProPoint sprits and diet mixers. I never really noticed until I began tracking but the simple switch makes a big difference. I was down a pound at last week’s weigh-in and I really hope to have dropped a few more by Wednesday!

Although Christmas time can be hard when it comes to all the extra treats that are on offer, it is also quite an easy time to get moving. On Saturday I spent all day in town shopping and walked in and out instead of hopping on the bus. My feet ached but I definitely felt better for doing it. However, my laser card had a bit more of a work out! When I was out with my friends this weekend, I spent most of the night on the dance floor instead of the bar and I definitely racked up a few Activity ProPoints by the end of the night.

I have been experimenting with new recipes this week and it has really pumped up my enthusiasm for the ProPoints programme. It’s always nice to try new things and it keeps the ProPoints plan interesting. I also tried the new Special K crisps that Mary recommended and they are a great alternative to the usual party munchies.

It’s only a week until Christmas Day and I’m really excited to head home and spend time with my family and friends but I really don’t plan to put the last five weeks to waste. I worked hard to shed the pounds so I am aiming to stay the same or maybe even lose some by the time our first January class comes along. I know it can be done and it’s about keeping an firm eye on the tracker and getting my runners on instead of vegetating on the couch for two weeks. Never the less, I’m dreaming about the Christmas dinner, but this year it does not need to be piled so high!
