This week, Her.ie girls Amy and Patricia embarked on their journey with Weight Watchers and are sharing their experience with our lovely readers.
The girls will be keeping a diary of the programme as they lose the pounds and share their thoughts and tricks each week with the nation.
In Her.ie’s first diary entry, the girls speak about their first class and the scary first weigh-in.

Our first class was on Wednesday and although it was daunting, it can only really get better from here, can’t it?
Although the number on the scales was scary, there is no point beating myself up about it as it will only set me up for a fall. Instead I am going to focus on the positives and concentrate of shifting the weight.
I have lost weight with the ProPoints programme in the past, but our leader Mary advised Amy and I to look at this opportunity as a fresh start and I agree. Last night, for the first time in a long time I sat down with a pen and paper and planned my grocery list. Planning is the key to losing weight and I am really committed to tracking my ProPoints this week.
On Wednesday, Mary said having a bad week and not showing up for the meeting is a sure way to put the weight on and that is definitely what has happened to me in the past. This week I am going to use my tracker as best I can and use the fine weather we have at the moment to get active.
I love to cook so I am really looking forward to trying out some new recipes including the Weight Watchers Creamy Chicken Pie.
Our leader said that is important to remember that Weight Watchers isn’t a diet but a lifestyle change. That really stuck with me and I am looking forward to throwing myself into the programme and getting rid of the unwanted weight.

Standing on a scales is never easy and I’ll admit I was given a bit of a shock during my first Weight Watchers weigh-in earlier this week. I’m a lot heavier than I originally thought I was. A whole seven pounds heavier, if you want to get technical about it.
But at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter because I’m embarking on a lifestyle change and I’m positive that I’ll get those seven pounds (as well as any other extra weight I’m carrying) off for good.
What can I say about my first Weight Watchers class? My leader Mary was warm, welcoming and took the time to explain the ProPoints programme in detail before I was sent on my merry way.
Throughout the class she answered everyone’s questions and talked about the importance of choosing filling foods and spending your ProPoints points wisely, while also cracking a few jokes. The atmosphere was very positive and encouraging and I found myself feeling super-motivated when it came time to leave.
At present I’ve been on the Weight Watchers ProPoints plan for a day. I won’t lie. I have found the first day fairly tough – mainly because I’m still getting the hang of counting up my ProPoints and getting used to making positive food choices (as opposed to eating a bag of crisps whenever hunger pangs strike).
I’m already starting to notice how my body works. For instance, after today I know that I’m the kind of person who needs to eat a big breakfast and who needs a few snacks throughout the day to keep my energy levels up.
Thankfully the ProPoints plan is totally adaptable and designed to work around you and your life. I plan on jiggling my ProPoints around so I get enough to eat first thing in the morning and stocking up on 0 ProPoints vegetables and fruits that I can snack on throughout the day.
Mary has set me the target of losing one pound every week, so I’m determined to try my hardest and to track, track, track for the next seven days.
