Weight Watchers Diary: Week 9

In this entry, the girls are talking about creating new routines and the joy of knowing that you're not alone...

It’s a brand new week and Her.ie girls Amy and Patricia are feeling motivated now that they’ve entered into the final few weeks of their Weight Watchers challenge.

In this entry, the girls are focussing on staying on plan, upping their activity levels and cooking up some ProPoint-friendly food in the kitchen.

Twice a week, Amy and Patricia will be giving an in depth look at what it’s really like to live life while following the Weight Watchers plan. To keep up with the girls’ journey make sure you check out their previous diary entry by clicking here.

It’s a brand new week and every time Monday rolls around, I breathe a sigh of relief that the weekend is over. No, I’m not completely mad, it’s just that in terms of weight loss, I always struggle to stick to the Weight Watchers plan over Saturday and Sunday. In fact, I find that temptation tends to rear its ugly head on a Friday night and continues to sabotage me until Monday comes around again.

The good thing is that I’m not alone when it comes to feeling like this. At our Weight Watchers meeting last week, Mary asked how many of us felt that we did a great job during the week but struggled slightly at the weekend. Honestly? More than half the class raised their hands and grumbled in unison.

The reason that this tends to happen, Mary explained, is because that we all have our own personal routines during the week. We get up, we eat breakfast and we’re perfectly happy not to eat again until lunchtime. However, at the weekend, our normal routine is upset and that’s when we’re more prone to picking at food, overeating and just generally feeling a bit ‘blah’ with our Weight Watchers plan.

I’ve noticed that my cravings for junk food tend to be pretty bad over the weekend, so I’ve devised a plan that will hopefully help me to stay on track. Rather than having my weekly ‘treat’ on a Wednesday night after my weigh-in, I’m going to have it on a Saturday night instead. I think having something to look forward to (whether it’s a takeaway or a few drinks) at the weekend will really help me in terms of cravings.

By making this choice I’m creating a new routine for myself – one that will help me to stay on my plan during the rest of the weekend. Plus, it also means that I get to enjoy what I love but just with a little bit of moderation. It’s perfect.

I’m hoping that the scales this week will see another minus, although to be honest I’m still on a high after last week’s achievement. The sparkly ‘stone’ that I got from Mary has taken up pride of place on a shelf at home and every time I see it, it gives me a new push of motivation. I’m confident that if I don’t see a minus this week, I’ll definitely see one next week!

I don’t know if any of you checked it out but yesterday’s Sunday World had the most fabulous Weight Watchers supplement filled to the brim with new recipes and inspiring Irish stories and reading by the fire yesterday really motivated me this week. I think it’s really important to change things up on this Propoints programme because I become very bored with food very easily. I love to cook and new recipes really inspire me to stay on track with the Propoints programme.

I only have two and a half more pounds until I am finally below 14 stone and that is really thrilling. I am so excited to see a new number on the scales for the first time in a long time and I am really looking forward to getting there in the next few weeks I am getting quite close to my second silver seven and I’m delighted. I’m going to really pump up my exercise this week in order to get there.

As I said last week, I’m really interested in joining some fitness classes and I am hoping to brave kettlebells this week with a friend! There are so many good fitness deals on websites like Grabit.ie and I think I am putting my pennies to good use for once.

My leader this week recommended to look towards Valentines Day and make a goal for myself, which I have done. I hope to lose at least another 5% of my body weight by then and I really plan to get there. I am hoping that this summer I don’t dread the trends. Usually I am so reluctant to shed my jumpers and long sleeved tops but hopefully I will be more confident this year thanks to Weight Watchers.

I am looking forward to getting to Weight Watchers on Wednesday and I no longer dread the scales as I once did. I’ve realised that it’s not a race and I will get there in the end!
