Weight Watchers Challenge: Week 10

This week Mark and Karen are talking about surprising results and getting closer to those all-important goals.

Earlier this year we put out a call for an adventurous couple who wanted to make a healthy lifestyle change together.

Karen and Mark answered that call and, over a twelve week period, they’re giving us an honest, in-depth account about what life is like when you’re on the Weight Watchers plan. They’ll also be helping and supporting each other along the way.

This week Mark and Karen are talking about surprising results and getting closer to those all-important goals.

Mark and Karen have taken up the Weight Watchers challenge!


Name: Mark

Starting Weight: 14st 5lbs

Current Weight: 12st 8.5lbs

I wasn’t expecting to lose any weight this week. It was the last week of college and that resulted in a night out drinking following by a late night Burger King. The hangover the next day was pretty savage and I ended up ordering myself some Dominos Pizza.

To top everything off, Karen got a new job and I decided to take her out for dinner to celebrate. I had a starter, a main course and a dessert.

After all of that, I couldn’t bring myself to add up the amount of ProPoints that I went through. However, I decided to start afresh and get back on track.

I had a race on Saturday and have been running every day since. Despite my over indulgences, I was down 1.5lbs which was a great result.

As it stands I’m only a few pounds away from my ideal weight and I’ve lost 10 per cent of my body weight since I started the Weight Watchers programme.

At class this week there was a huge turnout of new and old people. My class leader, Fiona Halpin, is a fantastic speaker who is great at helping everyone – our class always has a massive weekly weight loss.

Given that there’s only a few more classes left in our Weight Watchers challenge, I want to try and reach my own personal goal of 11st 7lbs before they end. This is more than achievable but I will still need to put in a serious amount of work in order to reach it!

Starting Weight: 12st 8.5lbs

Current Weight: 11st 4.5lbs

This week has been a bit up and down! I did plenty of exercise and ate well for most of the week, but a few occasions let me down. I got a new job which obviously meant the obligatory couple of drinks to celebrate. Mark also brought me out for a meal and since we hadn’t been out for a meal in so long, I didn’t pick the best options when it came to food.

Also, being a big Manchester United fan meant I had to have a few drinks when we won the league on Monay! However, I tracked everything and saved Activity ProPoints up to use as I went over my weekly ProPoints. It all paid off and I had a loss of 1.5lbs this week.

Our class this week was all about eating out and coffee breaks. This is something I was really interested in – I actually gave up having a large mocha every morning when I started this challenge. In class this week I learned that a ‘skinny’ mocha isn’t as many ProPoints as I thought it would be (to be honest I never even knew you could ask for a ‘skinny’ one!).

I can’t believe 10 weeks of our challenge have passed by already. There’s only two weeks left now! Since starting I’ve lost 10 per cent of my body weight and two days ago I picked up a pair of skinny jeans that used to be really tight on me. I’m pleased to say that they’re now my baggy jeans!

Those size 12s are so close I can almost taste them!
