An Illinois anchorman shared his devastating news on live television that he only has a few months left to live, during an emotional broadcast on Friday.
Dave Benton, an anchorman for WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois said that he is “at peace” with his diagnosis and vowed to continue working but wanted to be “honest” with viewers.
The 51-year old had told viewers that his brain cancer was back, and revealed in the broadcast that:
“Basically, my cancer is back and it’s too big for surgery and radiation. Doctors have told me that I may have four to six months to live. Now I’ve also decided to try a new treatment, it’s an antibody treatment, a chemo treatment to slow down the growth.”
The born-again Christian said his goal is “to have a few more days and make them the best that they can be in the life that I have,” saying he trusted that he was in God’s hands.
Meanwhile, his co-host commended Benton on his “amazing attitude” and “strength” while battling the illness.
This is real bravery.
