The scientific way to stop bloating that you’ve probably never heard of

News to us!

Cathy Donohue

Bloating isn’t much fun at all.

Whether it’s caused by indigestion or simply THAT time of the month, that full-up feeling can be hard to get rid of.

It’s something that happens all of us at one point or another and although we’ve come across some random tips (avoid this fruit), this one is new to us.

Apparently, something called Urban Moonshine might be the key to improving digestion.

It’s a natural digestive aid and ‘bitters’ are ingredients that can help anyone suffering from the dreaded bloated feeling.

Not only that, it’s said to be good for alleviating sugar cravings and helping promote a healthy liver.

Co-founder of Urban Moonshine, Jovial King, spoke to Byrdie about the concept of bitters.

“As human beings, we evolved eating tons and tons of bitters—bitter greens, bitter roots, bitter barks.

“Fast-forward to modern times, and as a culture, we consume an immense amount of sweet, salty, and processed food, and we have a severe lack of bitterness”.

However, according to King, our bodies are meant to consume bitter flavours.

“Our bodies are built for bitter flavours! Bitter engages and excites the digestive system. Bitter challenges the body, alerting it through taste that a complex food is being ingested, more complex than heavily processed food.

It is very important for the body to have enough challenge—challenge keeps us strong, on our toes, and ready for action! Bitters are like the gym for the digestive system—they help to keep it toned”.

As for how the bitters work, you spray some on your tongue and this works to reduce any cravings.

Now, I’m loath to believe that this idea could completely cure bloating but I’ll willing to give it a try nonetheless.
