Everyone’s drinking matcha, but is it good for you?
Everyone has replaced their morning coffee with a pricey matcha, but is it actually good for you?
We’re all aware that coffee isn’t necessarily the best thing to be drinking first thing in the morning, but fear not, matcha is the better option.
If you’ve been splashing out on a €7 iced strawberry matcha latte, then you’re helping your brain function.
According to experts, many matcha components can enhance your brain function.
In one study, a group of people analysed the difference in their brain function after consuming four grams of matcha.
The participants who consumed it noticed a major improvement in their attention span, as well as their reaction time.
They also noticed an improvement in their memory compared to the participants who took the placebo.
Healthline reports: “Matcha also contains a compound called L-theanine, which alters the effects of caffeine, promoting alertness and helping avoid the crash in energy levels that can follow caffeine consumption.”
As well as improving your brain function, drinking matcha can also improve your heart health.
It has a similar nutrient profile to green tea, which is known to protect against heart disease.
Consuming green tea has been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. This is because of the high concentration of antioxidants like catechins.
I guess it’s time to swap the daily flat white for a matcha.
Cutting down on our coffee intake is something we hoped to do, and this does seem like the best possible replacement.
