When it comes to life there’s one thing that the vast majority of us want to do more of. It’s exercise. Too often when we start a new exercise regime, we tend to give up after two or three weeks. Why do we do that? Well apparently we’re not asking ourselves the right questions.
According to health and fitness experts there are 11 questions that we should ask ourselves when picking an exercise routine. Taking the time to answer these questions and really consider the type of exercise that we’d like to can make us stick to our regime (and make our exercise more enjoyable on the whole).
One of the worst things that we can do is to pick a type of exercise just because a friend recommends it or because a celebrity has had ‘amazing’ results with it. Health experts state that we’re far more likely to stick with an exercise routine that suits our nature and our schedule. For example, if you’re a night person, vowing that you’ll get up at 5am to go for a run will just end in failure.

You need to figure out what kind of exercise suits you best
These are the questions that you should ask yourself when you’re trying to pick a type of exercise to stick with.
1. Am I morning person or a night person?
2. Do I want to spend more time outside?
3. Do I want more time alone or with my friends? Do I want to meet new people?
4. Does competition motivate me?
5. Do I like loud music?
6. Do I do better when there’s someone else watching me or does it annoy me if someone else is checking up on my goals?
7. Do I like to challenge myself physically?
8. Do I like sports or games?
9. Do I need more ‘quiet’ time?
10. Can I control my schedule or are my work hours fixed?
11. Can I cope with different types of weather or do I prefer not to have to worry about it?
By answering these questions you can see what your true interests are when it comes to exercise and just what you’re looking for.
For example, if you’re a morning person who’d like to spend more time alone, you might like going for a power walk before work. Likewise if you’re a night person who likes to meet new people and enjoys competing, you might like to join a team.
Just stopping to consider the above questions for five minutes will help you to find the type of exercise that suits your personality and also, the type of exercise that you’re most likely to stick with.
