Sitting square-eyed in front of the TV isn't an option for the kids this winter... get them moving with these top tips!

The evenings are dark, cold and getting shorter every day, but that’s no excuse for the kids to be constantly sitting in front of the television.

What’s a desperate parent to do with all this unspent energy?

Getting kids to exercise in the winter-time can be a struggle, but here are a few novel ways to get your crew up and moving this winter.

1. Water Fun

Visit your local pool. Winter is a great time to take swim lessons and get your kids confident in the water.

2. Keep It Traditional

Switch the TV for a traditional board game some evening and get the kids up and moving with Twister, charades or follow-the-leader.

3. Strike!

Check out your nearest bowling alley or skating rinks this winter. It’ll be a treat that the kids will talk about for weeks to come…

Get the kids out for a breath of fresh air this winter!

4. Re-Invent Your Home

Turn your garage into a space where the kids can kick back and play hopscotch, with an indoor basketball hoop or just room to run around.

5. Wrap Up Warm

Bundle the kids up and get them out in the fresh air. As long as it’s not raining, they should be delighted to visit a park or nearby walking area. Bring the bikes and let them cycle about. They’ll be red-faced and happy in no time!

GloHealth members who have the Kids’ Health Personalised Package will get a €30 contribution each year towards their child’s sports membership. For more information on this package, see GloHealth.ie.
