Another day, another tip on how to live your life more effectively (apparently).
While we know the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables, the latest tip on health eating might be hard to swallow.
Bananas are a great source of vitamins, minerals, fibre and potassium, but did you know the peel themselves are full of insoluble fibre?
Banana peels are also proven to be packed full of tryptophan, which increases serotonin – monitoring the happy levels in our brains. The peels have also been linked to helping with levels of depression.
So how can you actually start eating your banana peels?
Well if the thick and rubbery texture isn’t exactly your thing, some health food experts recommend letting the peel ripen and turn brown making the skin thinner and sweeter.
Reap the benefits by baking the peel for 10 mins to make little chips, blending them into your morning smoothie or adding them shredded to a curry.
Talk about getting more bang for your (food) buck.
