If you have the dreaded double-chin syndrome, we have some news that’s about to make you VERY, VERY happy.
Double chins could be a thing of the past with a new ‘fatburner’ injection, which will melt fat cells beneath the skin using a chemical known as ATX- 101.
The treatment, which is currently in its final stages of FDA trials in the US, would mean people could contour their chin without using more sever surgical methods.
The drug is a version of deoxycholic acid – a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and helps to break down fat.
The injection has caused mixed reactions in the past, with 90% of people receiving ATX-101 experiencing some side effect of the drug. While majority of them were able to continue treatment, 13% withdrew from treatment sessions due to side effects.
The injections have now been tested on 1,600 people across the USA and Europe. Manufacturers Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Inc said more than 90 per cent of trialists had a reductions of fat after two years.
According to a statement from the drug company, both doses of the drug were seen to “significantly reduce” the amount of excess fat under the chin.
