Crystal Tadlock was given the fruit sealed in a wrapper on her Delta flight from Paris to Minneapolis on April 18. She decided to keep the piece of fruit in her bag until she made it onto the next airplane.
She told Fox 31 that as she was going through to the next gate, she was stopped for a random check by US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service officials, and it was there that they found the apple.
She told the news station: “He had asked me if my trip to France was expensive and I said, ‘yeah’. I didn’t really get why he was asking that question and then he said ‘it’s about to get a lot more expensive after I charge you $500’.”
Crystal said that she pointed out the Delta wrapper on the fruit, but they didn't care and still charged her.
“It’s really unfortunate someone has to go through that and be treated like a criminal over a piece of fruit," she said.
