Not for kids: Lidl is selling Prosecco Easter eggs this year and we’ll take 10

We all know alcohol and chocolate work all sorts of well together.

And now it seems Easter eggs are getting the alcoholic treatment too, with Lidl launching Handmade Prosecco Easter Eggs are part of their seasonal offerings in store. The retailer has partnered with local Cavan supplier Aine’s Chocolates to craft a premium range of artisan Easter eggs, and if the descriptions are anything to go by, we cannot wait for Easter morning. “The pairing of chocolate and wine has been much debated over the years; however," reveals Lidl’s Master of Wine, Richard Bampfield. "The key is to ensure one pairs the right wine with the correct variant of chocolate that strikes the right balance on the palate." Wondering what to pick and what to pair it with? Here is what Bampfield has to say: Deluxe Milk Chocolate Prosecco Egg (€8.99) To complement the silky, velvety chocolate taste, Richard pairs this egg with Lidl’s bestselling Prosecco Superiore Valdobbiadene (€9.69) from the retailer’s everyday range, which expertly draws out the refreshing hint of fruit in the chocolate. Deluxe Dark Chocolate with Orange Egg (€7.99) Richard recommends to pair dark chocolate with Lidl’s Donna Paola Vino Passito Toscana (€8.99). A rich, sweet wine from Tuscany is commonly served with desserts that compliments the intensity of bitter cocoa in dark chocolate along with the zest of orange. Deluxe White Chocolate & Raspberry Egg (€7.99) Try Lidl’s Deluxe White Chocolate with Raspberry Egg with the retailer’s Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos (€14.99) from Hungary. This unique wine is gloriously sweet, certainly sweet enough to balance the chocolate, and the honey and candied fruit flavours will enhance the flavours of the chocolate.
