While we know acne, breakouts or irritated skin patches could be down to a poor diet, the appearance of your skin could be the fastest way to predict any underlying issues with your organs.
An ancient practice called ‘Face mapping’ connects each point of your face to an organ or body part – which could point a finger towards an organ that needs treating internally.
While we know it’s important to check in with a doctor when it comes to health concerns, keeping an eye on some tell-tale signs could be the biggest indicator you need to book that appointment.
Here’s how you might need to face-up to these changes in appearance:
1.Forehead:
Linked to: gallbladder and liver issues, it’s believed the forehead is indicative of the nervous and digestive system. If you’re suffering from stress, you can expect to see a breakout flash across your skin here.
2.Between your eyebrows (right side):
Linked to: repressing your emotions and anxiety, which will lead to frown lines on your face. By holding onto stress, you could be putting extra pressure on your liver.
3.Between your eyebrows (left side):
Linked to: emotions being held in the spleen
4.Eyes:
Linked to joint problems/ intestinal problems
It seems eyes aren’t just the window to our souls. According to mindbodygreen, small irises can indicate joint problems – while a spotty iris could mean poor absorption of nutrients in our intestine. Notice a yellowish colour in the white of your eyes? This could indicate a weak liver and you should consult a doctor.
5.Below eyes:
Linked to: impaired kidney function
Notice you have puffiness under your eyes? Increase your water intake to aid digestive fibre in your system. Also consider adding more spices to your food and making sure to chew food well.
6.Cheeks:
Linked to: slow metabolism/ low absorption of nutrients
If you notice a patchiness of skin or discolouration of your cheeks area, it could indicate poor metabolism and low absorption of nutrients, including folic acid and iron.
7.Nose:
Linked to: blood and heart issues
Face-mapping links the nose closely to your circulatory system, so a breakout on your nose could mean high blood pressure.
8.Lower Lip:
Linked to: intestines/ digestion issues
If you notice brown spots on your lips, or notice they’re extra pale in appearance, the colouring could be linked to problems with your intestines or digestion issues.
Poor oxygen absorption or enzyme function can easily present itself in a bluish tinge on your lips.
9.Tongue:
Linked to: lung issues/ toxin build-ups
A u-shaped coating at the back could indicate toxins in your colon, while discoloured areas on the side and/or back could mean you need to have your kidneys checked. Did you clock a reddish spot towards the front? It could mean you have an overworked heart.
According to the ancient Chinese technique, you can also tell about your psychological state from the curves, cracks or ridges in your tongue.
10.Chin:
Linked to: hormonal imbalance
If you suffer hormonal imbalance, heavy periods or stress, the first spot you can expect to see will be a breakout around your chin and mouth area.
Make sure to get enough sleep, exercise and a balanced diet to help eradicate the signs of stress on your face.
