Dolly Parton sings ‘Jolene’ before getting vaccinated with jab she helped fund

Dolly Parton sang a version of her hit 'Jolene' re-written with vaccination-related lyrics, before receiving a coronavirus jab on Tuesday. The country legend got the vaccine developed by Moderna, which she helped fund.

Before receiving the jab at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Dolly Parton gave a quick blast of 'Jolene' - with the lyrics changed to encourage people to take the vaccine. "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you, please don't hesitate," Parton sang. "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, because once you're dead, that's a bit too late." 'Jolene' was written by Parton, and originally released in 1973. Here is Dolly singing the original version on TV back in 1988, in case you don't know it. And even if you do, it's such a good song, just listen to it again. "I'm finally gonna get my vaccine," said Parton in a video. "I'm so excited, I've been waiting a while." "I'm old enough to get it and I'm smart enough to get it... and I wanted to tell everybody that you should get out there, and do it too." In November it was revealed that Parton partially-funded the for research for Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a research facility in Nashville, Tennessee, close to where Parton was brought up. She was announced as a donor to the Vanderbilt facility in April last year, in honour of a friend who worked there as a surgeon.
