There’s no denying that the winter chill is settling in, and we’re feeling a bite in the air.

Despite all of our best intentions and endless layers of clothes, we find ourselves feeling a little congested and sniffly.

Waking up with a sore throat of blocked nose can be the first signs of an impending head cold.

Double your Drinks

When your system is battling a cold, you need to stay focused on keeping hydrated. As well as doubling your water intake – avoid indulging in that glass of wine.

According to Dr. Robert Huizenga, associate professor of clinical medicine at UCLA:

“Avoid alcohol, as it puts a strain on your already-weakened immune system.”

Supplement Your Symptoms

Want to try and cut your symptoms straight away? Studies suggest taking a zinc vitamin hit as soon as your symptoms hit could reduce the duration and severity of symptoms.

Stock up on some zinc lozenges from your local chemist, and keep in the press for when those cold symptoms start kicking in.

Sleep It Off

It sounds obvious, but resting your body for an hour or two gives your immunity system the chance to recharge – leaving you in a better position to kick your cold to the curb.

Steam Your Passages Clean

This one might raise a few eyebrows in your house-share, but steaming your nasal passages will help loosen up your congestion. This will loosen up mucous and help clear any early signs of infection.

Don’t have any extra time in your hectic morning routine?

Notch up your shower for some added steam – just make sure to keep a box of tissues at the ready.
