Would you try this?
Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a cheese toastie. It’s simple, it’s delicious, it’s filling… and basically, it’s everything you could ever really want in a sambo.
However, now we’re being told that we’re making them wrong, but we’re not too sure about the ‘right’ way.
Food writer, Tristan Lutze has given his opinion on News.au on how to make the perfect one, and yeah, we’re going to give it a try, but will we like it?
OK, so Tristan thinks the way to make the perfect cheese toastie is to… spread mayonnaise on the outside of the sandwich.
He said: “It browns the bread more evenly, burns less quickly (so you can melt that cheese properly), tastes just as good and, most importantly, spreads easily on even the softest of breads.”
It also doesn’t split or get hard so you won’t have any problems spreading it onto your bread before you pop it in the toaster or under the grill.
“While butter splits into oil and solids, the latter of which burns quickly against the hotplate, mayonnaise is perfectly emulsified, meaning no more blackened patches. And whole egg mayonnaise — the kind you buy in a jar — has the same ratio of salt, so you won’t be sacrificing any flavour.”
OK, so it does sound good… and we might just try it this lunchtime.
