Last summer, Her.ie were stuck in Ireland as we prepared for the launch of our shiny new website, but that didn’t stop us dreaming about a far away sunny beach.
Lucky for us, we’re not up the duff because new research has show that women who think about long luxurious beaches and other relaxing things are more likely to conceive.
Researchers in Israel found that women who took part in stress management therapy including visualisation techniques like imagining being on a beach, increased their risk of pregnancy.
Jo Czamanski-Cohen the doctor who lead the study said negative thinking prevents many women from getting pregnant.
“I think a lot of the negative thinking is preventing disappointment for them. It’s to stop them being disappointed if it does fail.”
Dreaming of the beach could cause a baby boom
The study found that all but two of the women who completed the cognitive behavioural therapy course ended up getting pregnant.
These sessions involve muscle relaxation, breathing exercises and imagining oneself in a relaxing place, which is for most a beach.
“Eighty per cent of the people I work with use the beach,” said the doctor.
So if you’re hoping to hop on the baby bandwagon get your imaginary bikini on and head to the sea.
