When you don’t have the few bob to pop to the shops or nip down to the local for a few scoops there’s not much else to do except to get busy in the bedroom!
This is the case for thousands of Irish couples and in 2009 the number of births in Ireland reached a 118-year high.
However, maternity wards around the country are still experiencing the baby boom and Dublin midwife Sinead Cleary said nurses are still run off their feet.
Ireland is still experiencing a baby boom!
“Our biggest problem is not being able to fill vacancies. You end up stealing nurses from other wards to bulk the numbers on the delivery suites.
“It’s not as busy as 2009 but we are still very busy. In a 24 hour period we could have 18 or 20 deliveries,” she said according to Yahoo News.
Despite the number of children born in Ireland, retailers say that people are spending less on baby items.
“It’s more prams but cheaper prams,” said Paul Kealy, owner of the Tony Kealys baby stores.
Seeing as staying in is the new going out, mostly for money reasons, we can see why so many Irish couples have so much time to make those gorgeous babies!
