The Good, The Bad & The Weird: Celebrity Baby Names From 2012

A new poll has revealed the best and the worst celebrity baby names of the past year.

Now, we all know that when it comes to naming their children celebrities can be a bit, well, eh, “creative” (Gwyneth Paltrow, we’re looking at you). But there are a few celeb mammies and daddies who get it right.

In fact, Megan Fox is one such celebrity because her son’s name ‘Noah’ has come out on top in a poll about the best celebrity baby names of 2012.

We have to admit, ‘Noah’ has a certain ring to it (probably because we just keep thinking about the hotness that was Noah in Home and Away back in the day – remember him?). Anyway, Hilary Duff also scored highly in the poll, with her son’s name ‘Luca’ coming in at a respectable second place. And Amanda Holden’s daughter’s name ‘Hollie’ came in third.

The survey, which was conducted by parenting website Bounty.com, also saw names like ‘Faith,’ ‘Marnie Mae,’ and ‘Pearl’ ranking highly.

“Rightly or wrongly we all have opinions about the names that celebrities give their newborns. Our baby names database shows that some parents takie inspiration from them with many celeb baby names setting future trends,” said Lisa Penney, a spokeswoman for Bounty.com.

“Whilst other names simply don’t work when parents apply the shout in the supermarket test,” she added.

Would you ever give your child an unusual or strange name?

But what about the celebrities who got it oh so wrong? Mark Owen’s daughter earned the title of ‘worst celebrity baby name of 2012’ with her name ‘Fox India’ while Billy Piper’s son Eugene was the second most unpopular name.

“Parents do need to think very carefully about everything that comes attached to an unusual moniker as it can definitely shape a child’s experiences from how they are treated at school and beyond – which is not such a problem for celebrity children,” said Lisa Penney.

“That said, today’s trend change more quickly and names that seem relatively unusual and quirky can quickly become mainstream and common in the classroom,” she added.
