Study Finds Pet Dogs Improve Children’s Health

The findings show that by having dogs, and cats, in the home your child could be healthier. As if we need more of an excuse to want a puppy!

As it turns out dogs aren’t just good fun for you, they are also good for your child’s health.

In the journal Pediatrics it was reported that those babies who live in a home with a dog tend to be healthier.

Not only do dogs help babies with asthma and breathing problems but they also reduce their risk of inner ear infections, coughs and allergies. There is also less of a chance that the child will require antibiotics.

This is due to the fact that dogs, and to a lesser extent cats, bring more germs into the home thus strengthening the immune system of the child.

However the study cannot clarify whether the findings are solely due to the presence of dogs or other lifestyle choices within the home.
