American researchers believe that birth problems could be eliminated in the future by a vaccine.
According to Metro, the vaccine, which would be given to babies in the womb, could prevent pregnancy complications.
Scientists believe that naturally occurring cells produced by the body during a woman’s first pregnancy suppress their immune system.
The presence of these cells makes pregnancy complications less likely because they remember the first pregnancy and work to protect the foetus from infection and harm.
Doctors are investigating a T-cell vaccine to help prevent complications
Dr. Sing Sing Way, who conducted the study, revealed that his research is focusing on expanding the presence of T-cells in the body during a woman’s first pregnancy
He said: “Current vaccines target immune activating cells that eradicate the virus with later infection.
“A vaccine that targets the expansion and retention of immune suppressive cells would allow selective silencing of undesired responses and prevent them from attacking the body,” he said.
