A growing trend in new mothers is placentophagy, better known to many as the act of eating the placenta after birth. Many new mothers are getting board with this trend, citing positive impacts on their mood and hormones following the birth of their child.
January Jones and Holly Madison are just two celebrities who have consumed their placentas after birth, according to Fox News. Now there are projects which are examining the benefits to consuming the placenta.
Jodi Selander, known to many as the Placenta Lady, has been advocating eating the placenta after birth at any opportunity.
“I never felt overwhelmed. I never felt overly emotional or weepy, or like I couldn’t handle the situation. And I felt great almost immediately after having my second daughter, and this was not only with a newborn but a 3 year old at home as well, so it was an amazing difference,” Selander said.
