The baby shower scene has never really been that massive in Ireland…until now that is. Ever since Ireland’s birth rate climbed its way up to rest amongst the highest in Europe, baby showers have become a bit of a sensation.
And apparently they’re gaining more and more popularity as the years go on. So much popularity, in fact, that baby showers are now rivalling hen nights when it comes to female-only style parties and an entire industry has started to develop around them in Ireland.
When you think about it, baby showers require an awful lot of planning, and according to Niamh Scott, the owner of BabyShower.ie, dozens of Irish venues from hotels to cafes are now getting in on the act by dedicating party packages to this specific event.
“A shower is a lovely opportunity for expectant mums to catch up with girlfriends, and bring the family together to celebrate the imminent arrival of the new baby,” said Niamh.
“It’s a fun occasion with friends and family, and also has the very practical purpose of letting the mum know she has support at this special time,” she added.
Baby showers are all about getting together, celebrating and having fun.
So what does a baby shower involve then? Well it centres around showering the mammy-to-be with gifts that can help her on her journey through motherhood and having the all-important craic with your friends.
Most baby showers include some hilarious games, like baby trivia questions, bib decorations and a few pampering options like manicures or massages.
In short, they sound like a great way to celebrate the fact that your bestie/aunt/sister/whoever is getting ready to welcome another life into the world.
What do you think women? Have you ever had a baby shower? Would you ever have one?
