We may be sick of that worn out sexist joke ‘Get Back to The Kitchen’, but it turns out the average mother spends a crazy amount of time in front of the stove.

According to new research, the average mother spends three whole years of their life in the kitchen preparing meals for their brood.

Researchers found that a mom spends and average of 1,117 days of their life in the kitchen, which works out as eight hours a week making breakfast, dinner and lunch for their families.

The survey, conducted by B&Q, revealed that mothers spend an extra 20 minutes a day in the kitchen, reading a newspaper and watching telly.

Many women relax in the kitchen with a good book or newspaper

The survey revealed that 43 per cent of us find a man with a nice kitchen much more attractive as we believe that it reflects affluence and style.

It’s not just us ladies who are impressed by fancy gadgets in the kitchen as 35 per cent of men admit to discussing food and kitchen appliances over a pint with their friends.

A B&Q spokeswoman said: “This survey shows how important it is that men sharpen up our skills in the kitchen as whilst the kitchen has always been seen as the heart of the home it now seems that it’s also the way to a woman’s heart too.”
