We're never off the road, but sometimes the memories really make it worth it.

On the road again… do moms ever get off it?

Driving the kids to school, to football and to piano, driving ourselves to work and home again, and let’s not forget the runs into town to do the dreaded weekly shop.

However, a new study has revealed that some of our car journeys are actually very precious and parents between the ages of 25 and 75 revealed that bringing a new baby home for the first time was the most important and memorable car journey of their lives.

The survey, conducted by Citroën revealed that for 28 per cent of parents stated that that securing a newborn into the back seat of their car and driving them home was a very fond memory.

Meanwhile, 27 per cent of moms and dads revealed that the journey to the hospital to welcome their first child was the most important car trip of their lives.

Although packing our brood up into a car for a road trip may be daunting, one in seven parents said pulling away from the house on the family’s first holiday was most memorable.

Car journeys can be stressful, but some of our most precious memories are in the car

Let’s not forget the inaugural school run, which had one in six mums feeling a little emotional behind the steering wheel and dropping a teenager off to college armed with a duvet and home cooked dinners for the freezers was the most precious journey to seven per cent of mums and two per cent of dads.

Marc Raven, Communications Director at Citroën said: “The family car is an important touch point to some of our most treasured life experiences.

“Families come in all shapes and sizes, and go through so many individual experiences, but the results of this survey show just how much in common parents have with each other and the significant role the family vehicle plays in our lives.”

Her.ie has a lot of fond memories of being squished into the back of a car on long journeys too and poking a new baby in the back seat.

Sometimes these special memories make up for all the driving. What is your favourite driving memory?
