Have you ever had a right chuckle with your mom or dad over something that nobody else in the world would find funny? We at Her.ie certainly have and new research has shown that babies inherit their parents’ sense of humour!

The US study found that babies learn to laugh at the same things that their parents find funny and as they grow, they develop a similar taste of humour to their mom and dad.

Thirty babies were filmed watching normal and absurd events and researchers noted their reactions.

The researchers then based the study on whether of not the baby looked to their parents for emotional guidance during the absurd events.

Babies look to their parents before laughing at an adsurd event

During the normal events, the parents were advised to remain calm and collected but during the absurd events researchers instructed them to laugh hysterically.

The study found that nearly all of the babies laughed just because their parents were laughing too.

However, the research found that while babies rely on their parents to decipher what is funny and what is not during the first twelve months of their lives, it was found that by their first birthday, the babies laughed at the absurd events even without their parent’s approval.

Whatever the case, Her.ie can never resist a laughing baby. Is there any sweeter sound? Here is one of our absolute favourites. Happy Friday!
