The National Standards Authority Ireland (NSAI) has urged parents to only purchase costumes that are flame resistant in order to protect their kids this Halloween.

Shoddy costumes and Halloween accessories have the potential to go up in flames should they encounter fire or heat this Halloween season.

According to The Sunday World, Maurice Buckley of the NSAI said that the CE mark on costumes shows that the manufacturer has complied with safety regulations.

Remember to be fire safe this Halloween and only buy costumes with the CE mark

“The label doesn’t mean that these items won’t catch fire, but it does indicate that they will resist burning and they should extinguish quickly once you get them away from the fire source.

“At this time on year I would ask parents to look out for these marks, particularly since the standards are there for your safety and your children’s,” he said.

The expert warned people to remember that fireworks are illegal in Ireland and anyone who sees a person using them should call the Gardai.

He also advised people to seal their letterboxes and to keep their pets inside.

Halloween is great fun but the most important thing is to say safe!
