Elizabeth Hurley’s swimwear collection is pretty hot, but unfortunately it’s just after landing her in even hotter (wait…make that boiling…) water.
The model has been blasted by child safety campaigners for selling revealing bikinis for girls aged 2 to 13 on her website. In the pictures, children are posing in frilly bathing suits and adult-style leopard print bikinis.
Liz has said that her bathing suits and her accessories are harmless fun and a hit with children and adults, but child safety campaigners say they are doing nothing more than adding to the pressure youngsters feel to grow up too soon.
“It’s very disturbing to see some inappropriate items in this swimwear range,” said Claude Knight, of Kidscape, a child protection charity.
“The pieces are very adult – and which contribute to the sexualisation of young girls – do not take account of child protection concerns that have been well-aired,” added Mr Knight.
Elizabeth’s “Mini Cha Cha Bikini” for girls aged under 8 years old.
Meanwhile, Siobhan Freegard from Netmums, a parenting website, said: “I know a number of mothers who are concerned about the sexualisation of their children and would be horrified by their daughters dressing like mini strippers.”
A spokeswoman for Liz Hurley hit back at the complaints last night and said: “We are in our fourth year of selling kids’ beach kit. Our collections sell extremely well…most of our customers are repeat customers who report their kids adore the designs.”
Would you let your young daughter wear one of Liz’s designs?
