New research has revealed that up to a quarter of women wish they’d tried to conceive earlier in life.

According to a survey conducted by Red magazine, 24 per cent of women aged between 28 and 45 regret waiting so long to have a baby and 17 per cent of women were worried about their ability to conceive naturally.

The study even showed that women are resorting to IVF quicker because they fear that they will not fall pregnant naturally.

Manchester-based fertility specialist Dr. Mark Sedler told the Irish Independent that women are resorting to IVF before they have tried to conceive naturally for a long period of time.

“Patients are coming to us earlier than before, after trying to conceive naturally for a shorter period.

“They are saying ‘I at least need to know what’s going on.’

More women between the age of 28-45 are choosing IVF to conceive

“I think it’s better to be investigated earlier rather than late, and wasting precious time,” he said.

The research, which polled 3000 women, showed that one in five of us have considered becoming a single mother through a sperm donor.

Studies have shown that a woman’s fertility falls rapidly after the age of 35 but IVF can drastically improves one’s chances of conceiving in their 30s and 40s.

Health director Brigid Moss said: “It’s not surprising that nine per cent of women say they’ve had fertility treatment.

“It’s becoming more common, and so more accepted. In our study a quarter of women said they’d had problems trying to conceive,” she said.
