Nervous starting your new job? Or maybe you’re not sure if you’ve got a handle on all of the procedures?
Well, imagine your normal first-day nerves kicking in, add in the fact you’re working in a life-saving job and then imagine one of your first calls of duty is to assist your father.
Emergency dispatcher Crystal Morrow was on her first shift answering calls following months of training, when she recognised the voice on the other end of the phone as her aunt. Her panicking aunt didn’t recognise Crystal’s voice but continued to tell her how her father, who suffers from diabetes, had gone into shock.
Speaking to local media, Crystal told WAGA-TV:
“My hands froze over the keyboard but I knew I had to go ahead and get it in.”
Not wanting to distract her aunt from the situation, Crystal went on to instruct her aunt on how to care for her father while contacting emergency services. Her 55-year old father survived the attack following the swift actions of his daughter.
Just an average day in work – emergency dispatcher/ life saver.
