Will Smith is reportedly developing a spin-off series based on the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Word of the possible new chapter arrived Thursday via The Hollywood Reporter, with the news of the new project buried into an lengthy profile on how Will Smith had cracked Hollywood.
“In addition to producing Smith-fronted film projects,” the Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Westbrook is developing a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spinoff series (he still earns hefty royalties from the 1990s NBC sitcom, now licensed to air in 193 territories).”
Westbrook is Smith’s “cross-platform holding company” a new company overseen by Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally aired on NBC from 1990 to 1996 and its enduring popularity spread to this side of the Atlantic as well as in the US.
While there's been talk of a reboot of the show for years now, it's been confirmed that Smith is devising a spin-off with his production company based on the original series.
