Wicked lands near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score

Nina McLaughlin

It’s landed one of the highest scores ever for a musical adaptation

Finally, after years of waiting, Wicked is nearly in cinemas.

The film, which stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba, is one of the most hotly anticipated movies of recent years.

The first reviews have landed, and it seems fans are in for a treat.

Wicked has currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91 per cent from critics, but an impressive 99 per cent from verified fan ratings.

It initially debuted with a critics score of 93 per cent.

This means that the musical’s hardcore fan base are likely to be happy with the adaptation.

The musical, which is in turn based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name, has a cult following, and many have been waiting on tenterhooks to see if the film will live up to their expectations.

It seems fans will have to wait another year until they get the full story, though, as the second part of the adaptation, Wicked Part Two, won’t release in cinemas until November 2025.

For those looking to get their fix of the Wicked Witch of the West sooner rather than later, you can catch the first part of the adaptation in cinemas from Friday, November 22.
