WATCH: the first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 is here

Jade Hayden

It is, unsurprisingly, very ’80s.

The first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 has landed and it’s got everything you could ever expect from a superhero movie set in the ’80s.

Big hair, shopping malls, and neon lights.

And Gal Gadot fighting off some Russians. No, really. That is the plot.

Set in the midst of the Cold War, the film sees Diana Prince (otherwise known as the Big WW) come “into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.”

And while that’s pretty much all of the information DC has given away about the film right now, there are a couple of other things that the trailer can tell us for certain.

Steve Trevor, Diana’s love interest, will be back – despite the film taking place literally decades in the future.

We don’t know exactly how this is possible (considering he is not a superhero – and he died at the end of the last movie), but the trailer suggests that it could be something to do with a lad going by the name of Max Lord.

One of the two villains – that we know of – in the movie, Lord is heard saying: “Think about finally having everything you’ve always wanted” in the trailer.

He then says: “Now, I take what I want in return” after Steve and Diana are reunited, very much suggesting that Lord carried out some wizardry to bring Steve back to life and transport him to an entirely new decade.

Allow the WW1-solider-now-exists-in-the-1980s hi-jinx to commence.

The trailer also introduced us to one of Diana’s biggest nemeses, Barbara Ann Minerva, otherwise known as Cheetah, played by the wonderful Kristen Wigg.

Lots to look forward to next year, tbh.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set for release in summer 2020.
