Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson could be reuniting for a new movie

Katy Brennan

Is this…. 2008?

The last thing the world needs right now is another Twilight movie. But are we secretly hoping it’s on the cards? Yes.

Good news for Twihards, director David Cronenberg has said he is dying to get lead actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart back together for a film soon.

And while the thoughts of getting a look into the lives of Bella and Edward as grown-ups (if you could call them that) is kinda enticing, unfortunately, that’s not quite what he has in mind… yet, anyway.

The director, who specialises in all things horror, has worked with both actors in the past, and told film and TV writer Jordan Ruimmy:

“It was Robert who actually introduced me to Kristen and they have developed beautifully, separately, as actors, making arthouse movies and successfully carrying that off.

“Kristen and I had a great time and Rob and I had a great time. For me, yeah, I can definitely think of a movie, or idea, that would be great to have them both together.”

He seems to be staying tight-lipped about any potential plot lines, however, as he added: “I don’t want to get into it because it wouldn’t be my next movie.”

Okay, so it’s not probably not going to be another film about glittery vamps and moody teens. Realistically though, any project involving the two is going to give off serious Twilight vibes – something Cronenberg is well aware of.

“It might be problematic since fans might expect a certain kind of relationship and that would get in the way of creating new characters for them,” he said. “So, I have a strange feeling that might be problematic, so it’s only theoretical for now.”

Cronenberg’s latest movie, starring Kristen Stewart, is called Crimes Of The Future and it’s a futuristic psychological horror set in a world where the human species is “adapting to a synthetic environment”.

The concept of pain has disappeared and people easily undergo surgery to alter and evolve their bodies.

The skin-crawling and gory feature premiered at the Cannes film festival last week, with several audience members walking out halfway through.
