This week, the worst thing in the world happened.
No, you didn’t get served an eviction notice. No, your childhood pet didn’t die, and nor did your bike get stolen from outside Tesco for the third time this year.
Santa Clarita Diet was cancelled and good TV died forever.
Or, at least, died somewhat because while there are plenty of good, decent, funny television shows out there, none of them were quite as good, decent, and funny as Santa Clarita Diet.
And now it’s gone. Forever.
Although, it may not be because somebody has started an online petition to save everybody’s favourite zom-com – and if we know one thing about the internet, it’s that people get shit done there, sometimes.
The petition, launched by a women named Madeleine Rush to Netflix, reads:
“Santa Clarita Diet is one of the most funniest gruesome shows on Netflix.
“My family and I look forward to it every summer! There is so much story left to tell (the writers even said so)! Let’s get this awesome show one more season!”
Short, sweet, and to the point.
Thanks, Madeleine.
Santa Clarita Diet was officially cancelled this week.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Netflix said:
“The world had never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet, and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix.
“To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead.”
Drew Barrymore, who played Sheila Hammond in the show, said that the undead realtor was one of the favourite characters she’s ever starred as.
“She and Joel were an amazing couple, who had shared goals. And I am lucky to have worked along side Tim Olyphant,” she said.
“It was an honor to get to do something so delightful. Sheila lives forever in me. And I am grateful to Victor Fresco, who created a world so unique.”
Meanwhile, Olyphant joked: “I’m going to continue coming in and doing scenes. If they don’t want to film it, that’s up to them.”
Please do, Timothy.
Don’t let the dream die.
