Say it’s not so!
Fans of The Simpsons were left shocked after Marge ‘dies’ in the season 36 finale.
The animated series has continuously teased at near-death experiences for the main characters; however, the episode takes a huge leap when Marge is killed off.
The episode entitled ‘Estranger Things’ follows Bart and Lisa’s relationship through the years, with Marge expressing concern about how close they’ll remain as adults.
There’s then a 35-year time jump that reveals a grown-up Lisa living a successful life, while Bart runs an unlicensed retirement home.
Post time-jump, Bart and Lisa refer to their ‘late mother’, confirming that Marge dies sometime before reaching her early 70s.
Her passing is notable as many other familiar Springfield faces are shown to still be alive.
An elderly Homer can be seen alive but relocated to a care program in Florida.
Other known characters like Mr. Skinner and Milhouse also appear in the jump; however, Marge is absent.
Lisa eventually finds a heartfelt letter from Marge, written before her death, in which Marge urges Bart and Lisa to stay close, especially if Homer outlives her.
The letter prompts the siblings to reunite and attempt to break Homer out of his Florida facility.

In a touching ending, Marge can be seen watching from a cloud before ascending to heaven alongside Ringo Starr of The Beatles.
Due to this being a time jump, it is expected that Marge will undoubtedly return in present time when season 37 begins later this year, but it marks a significant moment as the series has now committed to a concrete version of Marge’s future death.
Viewers on X reacted to the shocking revelation, with one saying: “BIG MAMA MARGE IS DEAD? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?”
Another user was left outraged: “What the f*** do you mean “Marge’s death” huh? You b******s killed MARGE?”
