Cavan Rose speaks out about the gatecrasher incident

"I was very, very close to bursting out crying, I'm not going to lie."

She handled it very well.

Anyone who was watching the Rose of Tralee on Monday night, or even anyone who has a social media account will know that the most eventful part of the show was the moment the Cavan Rose was interrupted by a bit of commotion.

Lisa Reilly was talking about her boyfriend in the audience when a man dressed as a priest stormed the stage protesting ‘Fathers for Justice’.

The camera quickly panned away and when it refocused on the stage, Lisa carried on chatting to Daithí.

Many people applauded the Cavan Rose on how cool and collected she was after the ordeal.

But speaking to The Irish Mirror, Lisa reveals that she was actually pretty shook.

“I was very, very close to bursting out crying, I’m not going to lie.” She said.

But adds that the presenter and crowd reassured her to carry on:

“Daithi gave me a me a bit of a squeeze and all the audience stood up so I kept going.”

“Everyone gave me a standing ovation, especially the escorts and my fellow Roses, that gave me the push to be like ‘Lisa you need to do this.”

She explained that kept calm as she felt it was important to represent her county.

“It was the first time in eight years there was a Cavan Rose in the Rose of Tralee so I wasn’t going to let people down.

“So I did it, I really don’t know how.

“It’s more of a blur, I don’t have a clue what I said, I can’t really remember.

“I think I composed myself well, so I hope people will take that into account and recognise that rather than the incident itself and not give too much publicity to this man.”

“He thought he was doing good for his cause, but there’s a time and a place and i don’t think the Rose of Tralee was it.”

We admire the fact that she seemed to stay so calm, even if she was freaking out on the inside.
