Spencer Matthews to make documentary about brother who died climbing Mount Everest

He hopes the film can bring some peace to his family after their "devastating" loss.

Spencer Matthews is set to recount his brother Michael's final moments on Mount Everest in a new documentary. The Made In Chelsea star's brother died 23 years ago while climbing the mountain, at the age of 22. Spencer was just 10-years-old when he lost his big brother. He now plans to travel to Mount Everest for the film, to see where the tragedy took place, with the help of his other brother, James. “Spencer’s documentary about Michael and his final days is at the very early stages and Disney+ have shown an interest," a source told The Sun. “Though the Matthews family were never able to recover Michael’s body, there is a guide who believes they know his final resting place. “It’s a very tough film to make, but Spencer has the backing of his parents David and Jane, as well as James and Pippa." The source added that Spencer hopes the film can bring a little peace to him and his family in the aftermath of their loss. In his autobiography, Spencer revealed that the loss was "devastating for the family" and was made even worse by the fact that the circumstances surrounding Michael’s death have never been fully explained to them. "James took the news badly," he added. " With just a year and a half between them, he and Mike were the closest of friends. We have not been able to say goodbye in person." Michael was an experienced mountaineer, who had previously conquered Kilimanjaro. He also because the youngest Brit to ever conquer Everest. Unfortunately, he became separated from his group while descending back down the mountain. The rest of the group struggled with a storm and very strong winds but managed to make it back safe. His body has never been recovered. The Michael Matthews Foundation was created in Michael’s memory to support education for young people  in Africa and Asia.
