The Snapper is on TV tonight and that’s our St. Stephen’s Day sorted

Keeley Ryan

That cosy, post-Christmas feeling is starting to settle in.

And after the festivities of yesterday, we’re more than ready to curl up on the couch with a good movie – after all, ’tis the season for it.

Thankfully, Virgin Media have come to the rescue and are showing The Snapper tonight.

The movie is based on the novel on the same name by writer Roddy Doyle, the second book in The Barrytown Trilogy.

The story revolves around a young woman, Sharon Curley, and her shock pregnancy.

The twenty-year-old still lives at home with her mum, her dad and her many siblings.  But notoriety in her small town suddenly arrives in the unlikeliest of forms when, after a boozy night on the town, she becomes pregnant and refuses to divulge the identity of the baby’s father.

Eventually, the not-so-proud dad is exposed, bringing new levels of embarrassment and complication to the Curley household.

It’s safe to say that no matter how many times you’ve watched The Snapper, it gets better every time.

So it’s time to grab the popcorn and a cosy blanket, because there’s not long left to go until it will be on our telly screens once again.

  • The Snapper begins at 9pm on Virgin Media One.
