1. Waking Ned Devine, 1998
This charming tale of trickery in a tiny rural Irish town is an absolute classic. When lotto winner Ned Devine is found dead in his bed (with the winning lottery ticket in his hand), the town works together to fool the authorities into he’s alive so that they can receive the cash and share it.

2. Michael Collins, 1996
Liam Neeson’s portrayal of the Big Man is one of the most memorable in Irish cinema. Telling the epic story of the life and work of Michael Collins, the Neil Jordan-directed film is full of drama, passion and important moments in Irish history.

3. Frank, 2014
Starring two of Ireland’s brightest acting stars, Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Glesson, this Lenny Abrahamson-directed film is unlike any other Irish flick. We absolutely love it.

4. Song of the Sea,2014
This Oscar-nominated animation is one of the sweetest Irish movies ever made. Ben, a young Irish boy, and his little sister Saoirse, a girl who can turn into a seal, go on an adventure to free the fairies and save the spirit world.

5. The Guard, 2011
Stationed in deepest darkest Connemara, Sergeant Gerry Boyle (played by Brendan Gleeson) is Ireland’s most unorthodox guard. Gleeson and Don Cheadle (playing an FBI agent) are the perfect comedy duo. It’s not surprising that this is the most successful independent Irish film of all time.

6. Intermission, 2003
With its stellar cast of Irish actors (including Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy and Colm Meaney), this comedy crime drama cleverly combines an off-the-wall set of characters encountering love, greed and violence on the mean streets of Dublin.
