Christmas favourite “It’s a Wonderful Life” is to get a sequel with thefeel-good film from 1946 getting a continuation on the original story of bank manager George Bailey, who was played by the late James Stewart.
Variety reports that It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story is in the works and is expected to be released for Christmas 2015. The film is being put together by Allen J Schwalb, whose firm Star Partners financed The Color Purple and Rain Man.
Schwalb will be collaborating with Bob Farnsworth of Hummingbird Productions on the new film.
Many of the original cast members have passed away but producers have recruited Karolyn Grimes, who played George’s daughter Zuzu, in the new production and are in the process of getting more characters to reprise their roles.
"It's a Wonderful Life is about showing a good guy can win. And with Scrooge, you have a person that is not a good guy but he changes," Farnsworth told The Hollywood Reporter.
"This story is about the amazing human capacity to forgive when we see someone change for the better."
"Look, no one can make another It's a Wonderful Life. But our story is solid, and we are going in with our eyes open” he continued.
“There is no doubt about it, there will be a ruckus. But I have this motto: All it takes to be a leader is to have a cause you believe in. And the stronger you believe in the cause, the more adversaries you will have. And we strongly believe in this."
The producers are currently on the hunt for a director.
